Erratic Boulders
VCU MFA Thesis Installation at Anderson Gallery, Richmond, VA – on view April-May 2014
Installation view of Erratic Boulders, VCU MFA thesis installation at Anderson Gallery, Richmond, VA. 2014.
“Erratic Boulders” is an immersive scale mixed media installation that presents a range of fragments from different narratives as a way of compressing many time scales at once, and envisions a glacial deposit many millennia in the future. Though seemingly random, the objects and images I create are meant to draw tactile connections between my life, the past, and other cultures.
In its naming, “Erratic Boulders” refers to the depositing of boulders, rocks, sediments and other materials that receding glaciers leave behind. This phenomenon has the effect of spinning geology on its head as large chunks of earth and cultural debris can be carried by glacier for hundreds of miles.
